Job summary

Join Cleveland Clinic Hillcrest Hospital as a Health Unit Coordinator. You will be part of a dedicated team on the Med/Surg 3Rd Floor, handling patient admissions, records, and communications to ensure efficient department flow.

The role requires customer-focused service, strong clerical skills, and the ability to coordinate with nurses and physicians to support patient care. Evening shifts with weekend/holiday rotation are included.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a customer service-related role.
  • Experience with typing, basic computer tasks, and office software helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Greet, welcome and orient newly admitted or transferred patients.
  • Respond to patient call lights and perform rounds.
  • Assist with processing patient admissions, transfers and discharges.
  • Assist patients and families with wayfinding and direct to resources.
  • Assemble and maintain patient medical records and related documents.
  • Assist with unit clerical tasks and troubleshoot equipment such as call systems and phones.

3 Main is divided into three wings, West, South, and East, that deliver comprehensive medical, surgical, and telemetry care to adult and geriatric patients with a broad range of acute and chronic conditions. Care includes the management of heart failure, COPD, infections, gastrointestinal disorders, and other complex health issues, along with specialized services in cardiac/post-catheterization, renal, respiratory, vascular, diabetes, wound, and ostomy care. Two of the wings feature private rooms and blends elements of both complex care and medical-surgical environments, enabling them to meet diverse patient needs while maintaining a strong commitment to high-quality, patient-centered care.

As Health Unit Coordinator (HUC), you will offer unparalleled customer service to patients, families and visitors to enhance the Cleveland Clinic experience. Using your administrative and clerical skills, you will ensure an efficient operational flow of the department, allowing your fellow caregivers to continue providing optimal patient care.

A caregiver in this position works evenings from 2:30 p.m. – 11:30 p.m. with every other weekend and 3 holidays per year requirements.The schedule alternates between four 8-hour shifts one week and five 8-hour shifts the next.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Conduct an in-person greeting, welcome and orientation to the unit for newly admitted and transferred patients.

  • Respond to patient call lights and make rounds.

  • Assist with processing patient admissions, transfers and discharges.

  • Assist patients and families with wayfinding and direct them to available resources.

  • Assemble and maintain patient medical records and other documents related to patient care.

  • Assist with unit clerical functions and in trouble-shooting equipment failures, such as call system, portable phones, WOWs and other unit devices.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • One year of experience in a customer service-related role

  • Experience with typing, computer training or equivalent coursework

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • College degree

  • Microsoft Office experience

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full range of motion, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
  • Requires frequent data entry, standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
  • Requires normal or corrected speech, hearing and vision.
  • Requires some exposure to communicable disease or body fluids.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
