Job summary

Franciscan Health Michigan City Campus seeks a Health Unit Coordinator II to provide operational unit support and enhance patient and visitor experiences. You will respond to call lights, coordinate with nursing staff and physicians, and manage patient locations in Epic.

The role involves frontline customer service advocacy, onboarding new staff, and ensuring accurate patient information flow across departments, with day shifts at the Michigan City campus.

Qualifications

• Required High School Diploma/GED.
• 1 year related healthcare experience preferred.
• BLS certification.
• CNA certification (IL).
• NAHUC certification.
• EKG monitoring certification.
• CNA certification (IN).

Responsibilities

• Respond to call lights and direct inquiries to the appropriate party; monitor tube systems where applicable.
• Answer questions using appropriate standards and coordinate nursing staff, physicians, departments, patients, and visitors as a first line customer service advocate.
• Facilitate communication of patient information within the unit and with other units and departments.
• Answer multi-line telephones and direct callers to the appropriate party.
• Provide unit support by assisting with bed assignments and updating patient locations in Epic.
• Assist in onboarding and training of new employees to ensure consistent information delivery.

The Health Unit Coordinator II, among the Franciscan team, provides operational support to the unit within the defined scope of practice to maintain quality of care standards. This position, also, acts as a first-line customer service advocate to promote excellence in the customer experience.

• Answer multi-line telephones addressing the caller's questions or directing the caller to the appropriate party.
• Provide unit support by assisting with bed assignments and maintaining accurate patient locations in Epic.
• Assist in the onboarding and training of new employees to ensure all employees receive consistent and accurate information.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Required High School Diploma/GED
