UnityPoint Health in Des Moines, IA is seeking a Health Unit Assistant to provide essential administrative support on the unit. You will greet patients, manage calls, and help with admissions, transfers, and discharges in a fast-paced healthcare setting.

The role requires strong communication, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with nursing and admitting staff. Shift includes 7:00a-7:30p with a 24-hour weekly schedule and every 3rd weekend/holiday rotation.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• At least 1 year of clerical, customer service, or healthcare experience.
• Valid driver's license when driving for work.
• Fluent English; strong communication and customer/patient focus; MS Office basics.

Responsibilities

• Welcome and assist patients, visitors, and staff with professionalism.
• Answer and direct phone calls and unit communications.
• Coordinate admissions, transfers, and discharges with nursing staff.
• Update patient records in the EHR system per privacy standards.
• Support patient flow and scheduling of tests and follow-ups.
• Maintain office equipment and supplies.
• Communicate clearly with multidisciplinary teams.
• Handle sensitive information with discretion.
• Orient new staff to the role.
