The San Diego Unified School District is currently accepting applications for the position of Health Technician. This opportunity is open to all interested candidates. This recruitment will be used to establish an eligibility list for both Monthly & Substitute Opportunities.

BASIC FUNCTION:

The Health Technician performs specialized health care services for pupils with disabilities and chronic health problems at one or more school sites; perform first aid and routine health office clerical duties.

VACANCY / POSITION SPECIFICS:
  • Working Location: Nursing & Wellness Department. Various sites throughout the District.
  • The District covers a large portion of San Diego County. Refer to the District Area Map at this Link and make sure to identify any and all specific area(s) you are interested in working in. The area(s) you identify in your application will be used for any future vacancies filled using the eligiblity list from this recruitment.
  • Salary: This position is paid on the PARA Salary Schedule. Grade32. To view the Salary Schedule, click here.
  • Work Schedule: 10 months per year / 30 hours per week.
  • Positions 20 hours per week or greater qualify for District-paid health and wellness benefits for the employee and their eligible dependents.
  • Vacancies that require the incumbent to be Bilingual will be noted. Candidates considered for positions that require bilingual skills will be invited to a Performance Test (Qualifying Only) for oral and written fluency. Bilingual positions qualify for a 5% bilingual differential.
  • This recruitment will be used to establish an eligibility list for current and future hiring purposes. Additionally, successful candidates may be offered the opportunity to substitute.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:

A combination of training, experience, and/or education equivalent to one year of experience in the district job class of Health Assistant, Special Education Technician, or Special Education Health Technician, or as a technician or other paramedical function in a medical or related field. Possession of a medical assistant, nursing assistant, or paramedic certificate or post-high school courses leading to such certificate may be considered for substitution of the experience requirement.

NOTE: Your related education and experience must be clearly represented in the work history and education section of your application.

Licenses and Other Requirements:
  • Possession of a basic first aid certificate from one of the following providers: American Red Cross, American Heart Association, National Safety Council, Emergency Care and Safety Institute, or American Safety and Health Institute; an advanced certificate is desirable but not required.
  • Possession of a current infant, child, and adult cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification ; American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or Emergency Medical Services Authority certificates are preferred. Online certificates will not be accepted.
  • Keyboard/type at a net corrected speed of 25 words per minute.
