Job summary

Qualifications

• Requires two-year degree in a related field and experience in health care and/or assisted living.
• License as LPN/LVN or RN is required.
• CPR and First Aid certification is required.
• Ability to read, write, communicate, and follow instructions in English.

Responsibilities

• Assist in establishing policies pertaining to total resident care, personnel, medical staff, and resident care policies.
• Explain policies and procedures to staff, residents, visitors, etc.
• Assist with and participate in staff training.
• Hire, train, supervise, counsel, and terminate care staff as needed, with the AL Executive Director.
• Perform evaluations, counsel, discipline, and discharge health care staff.
• Assist with investigations of resident care as needed.
• Complete delegation training, assessments and documentation per state guidelines.
• Review policies and procedures periodically and make changes as necessary.
• May manage other departments as specified by AL Executive Director.
• Review workforce competence and establish safety programs.
• Participate in QA studies and gather family/resident input.
• Be on call and coordinate coverage; support a home-like atmosphere.

Education

Two-year degree in related field

Licensed Nurse (LPN/LVN) or Registered Nurse

Scope Of Job Tasks

• Assist in establishing the policies pertaining to total resident care, personnel, medical staff, and resident care policies, etc.
• Explain policies and procedures to staff, residents, visitor, etc.
• Assist with and participate in the training of staff.
• In conjunction with the AL Executive Director, hire, train, supervise, counsel as needed, and terminate the care staff as conditions arise.
• In conjunction with AL Executive Director, perform evaluations, counsel, discipline and discharge if necessary, all health care staff.
• Assist with investigations of resident care as needed.
• Complete delegation training, assessments and documentation per state guidelines.
• Review policies and procedures periodically and make changes as necessary.
• May be asked to manage other departments as specified by AL Executive Director.
• Review competence and effectiveness of work force on a regular basis.
• Establish a safety program including a Fire and Disaster Plan.
• Receive suggestions from department heads and other individuals on matters pertaining to department operations and external relationships.
• Assists with annual budget planning. Monitors the budget and make adjustments as necessary to meet the budget.
• Maintain working relationship with community hospitals and other health facilities in the community and coordinate with their services through work and transfer agreements.
• Participate in community activities.
• Review the physical environment of the department on a regular basis. Direct requests for repair and replacement when necessary.
• Keep current on all laws pertaining to the facility operation.
• Participate in all QA studies and respond as needed based on results.
• Elicit family and resident input.
• Be on call and available for community at all times. Cover other administrator/managers while on vacations. Coordinate coverage in your absence.
• Assist personnel and residents in establishing a home-like atmosphere.
• All other duties assigned.

Job Specification

Education

• Must have a two-year degree in a related field and experience in health care and/or assisted living.
• Must be a Licensed Nurse (LPN/LVN) or Registered Nurse
• Certification in CPR and First Aid.
• Ability to read, write, communicate, and follow written and oral instructions in the English language.

Work Experience

• Must have worked with people in a supervisory position in a similar campus setting for a minimum of three years.

Supervision

• Needs to be self-directed and possess the ability to make decisions. Is accountable for department performance. Works closely with the Executive Director and other department heads.
