Job summary

UTMB Health is seeking an HIM Technician in Galveston, TX. The role involves maintaining the integrity of health records, under supervision by the HIM Team Lead/Manager, and ensuring timely access to information for providers.

The position requires at least 1 year of HIM experience, strong customer service, and the ability to work in a fast-paced hospital environment. On-site schedule is Monday–Friday, 8:00 am–4:30 pm, with standard hospital duties.

Qualifications

• 1+ year experience in HIM or equivalent.
• Excellent customer service with clear written and verbal communication.
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced hospital environment.

Responsibilities

• Processes requests for release of confidential information in accordance with HIPAA and state laws.
• Analyzes data for completeness and regulatory compliance (CMS, Joint Commission, bylaws).
• Assists Medical Staff with records to avoid suspension of privileges.
• Maintains electronic health records and scans/indexes documents accurately.
• Collects birth certificate data for TxEVER data entry.
• Maintains Master Patient Index integrity.
• Safeguards health information confidentiality and security.
• Monitors work queues and reports from the EHR system.
