Job summary

Mohawk Valley Health System in Utica, NY seeks a Health Information Manager - RNC to oversee the accuracy, integrity and confidentiality of patient health records, ensure timely medical documentation, and maintain regulatory compliance including HIPAA, coordinating information between clinical departments, providers and external agencies.

You will supervise HIM staff, guide unit secretaries, manage EHR workflows, respond to information requests, support data abstraction for quality improvement

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in HIM, including supervisory experience.
• In-depth knowledge of charting requirements for skilled nursing and acute care.
• Highly proficient with EHR.

Responsibilities

• Review, analyze and process patient health records for completeness and accuracy.
• Provide guidance to unit secretaries in their medical record functions.
• Ensure timely scanning, indexing and filing of health documents into the EHR.
• Track and manage deficiencies in documentation, notifying providers as needed.
• Maintain master active census, admission and discharge logs for the facility.
• Perform concurrent and discharge analysis of medical records.
• Monitor and audit medical records to ensure HIPAA and regulatory compliance.
• Respond to requests for patient health information per laws.
• Coordinate release of information activities and record requests.
• Support data abstraction and reporting for quality improvement and external reporting.
• Serve as liaison between HIM and clinical staff.
• Assist physicians with record access and correction processes.
• Coordinate record retrieval for audits and legal requests.
• Utilize EHR and HIM applications to manage patient information.
• Support process improvement initiatives.
