Job summary

University Health in San Antonio, TX is seeking a Health Information Technician to organize and analyze inpatient and outpatient medical records for recently dismissed patients. You will assist in documenting deficiencies, support audits, scanning, and QA, and help with births registration as needed.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma or its equivalent is required.
• Associates or bachelor's degree in health information management or related field preferred.
• Two or more years of health care experience in a health care environment or Health Information Management Department with an EMR preferred; clerical experience accepted in place of healthcare experience.

Responsibilities

• Organizes and analyzes inpatient and outpatient medical records for patients recently dismissed from various units.
• Assists in accountability and organization of dismissal records when necessary.
• Creates appropriate deficiencies on inpatient and outpatient records.
• Assists in other areas of department, including completing incomplete records, registration of births, scanning, QA screening, auditing medical records.
• Promotes confidentiality and adheres to HIPPA and Joint Commission requirements; mentors other staff.
