Glendale Unified School District seeks a licensed nurse to support health services in its schools. The role involves first aid, medication administration, and maintaining student health records.
The incumbent will work in a health office setting, interact with students, families, and staff, and support mandated health programs. Requires CA LVN/RN license and at least 1 year of nursing experience with medically fragile populations.
Nursing functions include but are not limited to First Aid, CPR, administration of medications, specialized healthcare procedures and techniques, signs and symptoms of child abuse, infection control procedures, hazardous waste management, record keeping and reporting requirements.
Performs general office and clerical duties requiring the ability to interpret and apply procedures and policies to assigned responsibilities. Clerical duties require the ability to perform light typing/keyboarding using a computer.
Permanent opportunities exist at various school sites. Positions range from 6.5 to 8 hours per day, and are 10 months per year at elementary schools, or 11 months per year at secondary schools. Assignments with 7 or 8 hours per day include district-paid benefits for the employee and dependents. Assignments with fewer than 7 hours per day include district-paid benefits for the employee only.
New employees in this classification are hired at an advanced step of the salary schedule.

One year of recent nursing experience working with medically fragile children or adults or any combination of training and experience that would likely provide the desired knowledge and abilities.
Possession of a valid State of California License of Vocational Nursing or Registered Nursing.
Depending upon assignment, possession of a valid State of California Class C driver's license. Ability to be insured at standard vehicle liability and property damage insurance rates and maintain insurability.
Possession of a standard Red Cross First-Aid Certificate within three months of appointment may be required.
Written and oral proficiency in a second language.
Incumbents in this class may work in 1) a health office with a variety of students, staff, parents and other members of the public, or 2) in a one to one situation caring for one or more individuals with special health care needs. They may be required to drive personal vehicle to various sites to conduct work.
A review of applicants' experience and qualifications will be conducted periodically. Based on that evaluation, a limited number of top-qualifying applicants whose qualifications best meet the current needs of the District will be invited to participate in the next step of the examination process. The examination will include a technical qualifications appraisal interview. Qualified candidates will be provided with more details prior to the start of the examination process.
130 days of paid service.
After an offer of employment a candidate must submit proof of freedom from tuberculosis. Also required after an offer, the candidate must complete a pre-employment physical examination and obtain fingerprint clearance through the Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (district-paid). The onboarding process includes legally mandated training(s) and reference checks. In addition, pursuant to Senate Bill 848 (SB848), the district is required to conduct reference checks that include inquiry into whether the applicant has ever been the subject of a credible complaint, investigation, or disciplinary action related to child abuse, sexual misconduct, or sexual harassment.
