Job summary

The City of Fort Wayne Parks & Recreation is seeking an Ice Guard for Headwaters Ice Rink in Fort Wayne, Indiana. This role focuses on safety during public sessions, lessons, and events, with flexible hours to match programs and special events.

You’ll help open/close the rink, handle skate rentals, assist guests, and supervise volunteers while enforcing park policies. Ideal candidates have a high school diploma, basic first aid/CPR, and strong communication; ice skating experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 1–3 months related experience or equivalent.
• First Aid and CPR certification within two weeks of hire.
• Valid Indiana Driver's License if operating a City vehicle.
• Ice skating experience recommended.

Responsibilities

• Monitor ice activities and ensure safety during public sessions, lessons, hockey games, and events.
• Respond calmly and effectively to medical emergencies.
• Open, close, and secure the facility.
• Distribute and collect rental skates.
• Handle incidents, report disciplinary issues, and assist guests professionally.
• Support private/group rentals and special events.
• Assist with concessions, light cleaning, and inventory management.
• Enforce facility rules and Parks & Recreation policies.
• Communicate professionally with staff, volunteers, and the public.
• Train and supervise volunteers as needed.
• Collect user fees and maintain accurate records.
