Job summary

Rail Golf Course in Central Illinois is seeking a qualified Golf Course Superintendent to oversee agronomy operations for our 18-hole facility. You will report to the General Manager and manage budgets, staff, and maintenance of greens, tees, fairways, and irrigation systems.

The ideal candidate has an AA or equivalent, 2–5 years of related experience (agronomy preferred), a valid driver's license, and pesticide licensing or willingness to obtain.

Qualifications

• AA or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school with 2–5 years of related experience.
• Degree preference in agronomy, horticulture, or plant/soil science.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Pesticide license preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain the annual maintenance budget and capital plans.
• Reconcile and code invoices, payroll, and documents.
• Direct maintenance of greens, tees, fairways, roughs, bunkers and irrigation.
• Ensure maintenance equipment is properly maintained.
• Procure supplies within budget and follow purchasing procedures.
• Maintain records and prepare reports on maintenance activities and costs.
• Supervise and mentor staff, promoting teamwork and safety.
• Stay current on agronomic information and regulatory requirements.

Overview

The Rail Golf Course, located in Central Illinois, is seeking a qualified Golf Course Superintendent to oversee the maintenance and agronomy operations of our 18-hole facility. The Superintendent reports directly to the General Manager and is responsible for all aspects of a successful golf course grounds operation.

Experience Required

• Associate's degree (AA) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school, and two to five years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Degree preference in agronomy, horticulture, or plant/soil science.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Pesticide license preferred.

Essential Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain the annual golf course maintenance budget and capital plans.
• Reconcile and provide timely coding of all invoices, payroll, and other required documents.
• Plan, organize, and direct the maintenance of putting greens, tees, fairways, roughs, and bunkers and irrigation system.
• Ensure that maintenance equipment is properly maintained.
• Procure supplies and materials within budgetary limitations.
• Keep records of annual maintenance activities and costs; prepare reports.
• Implement sound purchasing procedures utilizing preferred vendors when possible.
• Ensure all company policies and procedures are followed, including compliance with government regulations.
• Ensure proper training and/or licenses are obtained to perform job tasks safely and within regulations; directly address environmental concerns.
• Stay current on agronomic information and oversee chemical and fertilizer mixing, calibration, and application.
• Provide leadership and foster teamwork, communication, ethical behavior, cleanliness, and a positive attitude.
• Develop, train, coach, discipline, and mentor staff.
• Incorporate safe work practices in job performance.

• $75,000 - $85,000 base salary, commensurate with experience.
