Job summary

The Maryland Rural Development Corporation (MRDC) is hiring a Head Start Teacher Assistant to support the Head Start Teacher in creating a safe, engaging early learning environment for preschoolers.

Responsibilities include helping with lesson plans, guiding activities, observing development, and promoting social-emotional learning. The role emphasizes family engagement, collaboration with staff, and adherence to Head Start policies at MRDC locations throughout the state.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or GED; CDA credential or higher education preferred.
• Child development knowledge and ability to plan developmentally appropriate activities.
• Experience with preschool-aged children is preferred and helpful.

Responsibilities

• Assist Head Start Teacher in planning and implementing lesson plans aligned with Head Start guidelines.
• Engage with children in developmentally appropriate activities, including play-based learning and reading.
• Observe and assess children’s development and provide input for individualized learning plans.
• Encourage and model positive social-emotional behaviors and problem-solving skills.
• Supervise children to ensure a safe and nurturing environment.
• Support classroom organization and materials setup; maintain a clean space.
• Assist with daily routines such as meals, naptime, and transitions.
• Follow Head Start health and safety policies; maintain hygiene and sanitation.
