Job summary

Maryland Rural Development Corporation (MRDC) is seeking a Head Start Teacher Assistant to support the Head Start Teacher in creating a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for preschool-aged children. This role involves assisting with classroom instruction, behavior management, and daily activities to promote school readiness and social-emotional development.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; CDA/Associate’s in Early Childhood Education preferred
• Previous experience with preschool children is preferred
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills
• Ability to follow instructions and work both independently and in a team

Responsibilities

• Assist Head Start Teacher in planning and implementing lesson plans
• Engage children in developmentally appropriate activities and play-based learning
• Observe development and contribute to individualized learning plans
• Model positive social-emotional behaviors and support family engagement
• Supervise and maintain a safe, organized classroom environment
• Prepare materials and support parent meetings and conferences
• Collaborate with staff and participate in trainings and meetings
