Job summary

Maryland Rural Development Corporation (MRDC) invites applications for the Head Start Teacher Assistant. You will support the Head Start Teacher to create a safe, engaging learning environment for preschoolers, assist with lesson planning, and help with daily routines and behavior management.

Strong communication with families and adherence to MRDC priorities are essential. Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, CDA or coursework in Early Childhood Education, and prior work with

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• CDA credential, Associate’s degree, or coursework in Early Childhood Education preferred.
• Previous experience working with preschool-aged children.
• Must pass criminal background check and fingerprinting.
• Must meet Maryland licensing requirements including medical evaluation and tuberculosis screening.

Responsibilities

• Assist Head Start Teacher in planning and implementing lesson plans.
• Engage children in play-based, reading, and hands-on activities.
• Observe and assess development for individualized learning plans.
• Model positive social-emotional behaviors and problem-solving.
• Supervise children to ensure a safe, nurturing environment.
• Assist with classroom organization and setup.
• Support daily routines including meals, naps, and transitions.
• Encourage family engagement and regular progress communication.
• Prepare materials for parent meetings and conferences.
• Collaborate with staff and program administrators; attend required trainings.
