Job summary

The Maryland Rural Development Corporation (MRDC) seeks a Head Start Teacher Assistant to support the classroom under the Head Start program. You will assist the teacher with lesson plans, activities, and daily routines, promoting school readiness and social-emotional growth for preschoolers.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED (CDA/AA or ECE coursework preferred) and prior preschool experience. A valid driver's license is required to travel to MRDC locations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• CDA credential, Associate degree or Early Childhood Education coursework preferred.
• Previous experience with preschool-aged children preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist Head Start Teacher in planning and implementing lesson plans aligned with Head Start guidelines.
• Engage with children in developmentally appropriate activities including play-based learning and reading.
• Help observe and assess children's development and input for individualized plans.
• Encourage positive social-emotional behaviors and problem-solving skills.
• Supervise children to ensure a safe and nurturing environment.
• Assist with classroom organization and daily routines such as meals and naptime.
• Follow Head Start health and safety policies including hygiene procedures.
• Develop positive relationships with families and communicate progress.
• Assist in preparing materials for parent meetings and conferences.
• Work collaboratively with staff and attend required trainings.
