Job summary

Save the Children is seeking an Assistant Teacher to support preschool-aged children in Head Start programs. You will assist the Lead Teacher in daily activities, promote social-emotional, physical, and cognitive growth, and help build strong partnerships with families.

Responsibilities include supervising children, planning activities, and maintaining a safe, nurturing learning environment aligned with Head Start standards.

Qualifications

• CDA credential or state CDA-equivalent; enrolled in CDA program within two years of hire
• Proficiency in spoken and written English
• Knowledge of Head Start/ Early Head Start program purpose
• Strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills; ability to follow directions and take initiative
• Ability to collaborate with staff, families and community partners to deliver high-quality services

Responsibilities

• Engage with children during activities and supervise indoors and outdoors
• Assist Head Start Teacher with daily schedule and activities for individual needs
• Maintain classroom management using developmentally appropriate techniques
• Serve as liaison between staff and parents; encourage classroom involvement and home activities
• Assist in record keeping, observations, assessments and screenings
