Job summary

The Government of the Virgin Islands is seeking a Food Service Worker for the Head Start program in the Charlotte Amalie area. The role focuses on food preparation, storage and inventory, sanitation, and supporting a positive learning environment during meals.

Under supervision, you will follow USDA guidelines, assist with menu substitutions with approval, and help maintain a clean kitchen and classrooms. Minimum qualification is a high school diploma or equivalent.

Qualifications

• Performs food prep and handling according to approved standards.
• Maintains sanitation and cleanliness of kitchen and equipment.
• Manages inventory of foods and cleaning supplies.
• Keeps records and reports as required by Nutrition Manager/Supervisor.
• Works with staff to provide meals to Head Start students.

Responsibilities

• Assist cooks with washing, peeling, and preparing fruits/vegetables.
• Prepare food for cooking including fish and meats.
• Prepare biscuits, rolls, muffins, cereals, milk, yogurt and simple snacks per USDA requirements.
• Follow approved menus and substitutions with approval.
• Serve breakfast and lunch at scheduled times.
• Stock and prep food for following day.
• Ensure meals are served in a clean, sanitary manner.
• Maintain records such as census, food information, inventory, and menus.
