Job summary

USVI Division of Personnel seeks a Head Start Food Service Worker to assist in meal preparation and kitchen operations for the Head Start Program. You will help prepare meals, maintain kitchen cleanliness, and manage supplies under the Nutrition Manager’s supervision.

The role emphasizes following USDA guidelines, maintaining records, and supporting safe and nutritious meal service for children.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to read and write and follow instructions.
• Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 pounds.
• Knowledge of food preparation and sanitation.

Responsibilities

• Assist cooks in washing, peeling and preparing fruits and vegetables.
• Prepare food for cooking by cleaning, dressing and cutting fish and meats.
• Prepare biscuits, rolls, muffins, cereal, milk, yogurt, and simple snacks according to USDA requirements.
• Serve breakfast and lunch at the scheduled time.
• Maintain required records (Census, food information, inventory, menu records).
• Clean and sanitize work areas, equipment and utensils.
