Job summary

Macomb County Government, Macomb Community Action, is seeking a part-time Teacher Aide to assist in Head Start programming. The role supports classroom activities, family engagement and daily operations across multiple sites in Michigan.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED, with CDA or associate degree preferred, and a valid Michigan driver’s license for travel between sites. Excellent communication in English is essential.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED.
• Willing to enroll in a CDA credential program within two years of hire.
• Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field preferred.
• Child Development Associate credential required/preferred.
• Previous experience with preschool children and Head Start programs preferred.
• Valid Michigan driver's license and insured automobile for travel.

Responsibilities

• Interact with children and families to encourage exploration and language development.
• Support parents as the child's first teacher and provide positive reinforcement.
• Use active supervision to ensure safety and accountability of all children.
• Assist in recruitment, registration and required screenings for children.
• Maintain a clean, safe classroom per licensing regulations and Head Start standards.
• Enter data on services provided using program-specific software.
• Travel between classroom sites as needed.
