Job summary

Slate seeks a C-level leader to drive growth through subscriptions, charting full-funnel strategies to engage new audiences and convert them to paid readers and listeners. You will oversee the subscription team, paid acquisition, and related metrics, working closely with editorial and product leaders to broaden Slate’s appeal and develop new subscription products.

The role reports to the CEO and collaborates with the Editor in Chief and CFO to integrate content strategy with growth initiatives,

Qualifications

• Proven experience building mid-funnel/habituation metrics for a subscription business.
• Track record of transformational change.
• Experience aligning goals with creative leadership.
• Examples moving users from casual to habitual usage.

Responsibilities

• Set the long-term strategy for subscriptions and growth across text, audio, and games.
• Lead the subscription team and identify gaps in paid acquisition and opportunities.
• Collaborate with Editor in Chief to sharpen content strategy for subscriptions growth.
• Map and measure the user journey from first touch to subscription.
• Establish mid-funnel metrics and teach the org how to impact them.
• Align investment initiatives into a coherent growth strategy.
• Expand paid promotion to scale acquisition and subscription growth.
• Improve retention by addressing churn causes.
