Job summary

BlackSky is seeking a Manager of the Mechanical Design Engineering team to lead a group of Mechanical Design Engineers responsible for space vehicle systems, structures, mechanisms, components, and ground support equipment. You will define a design process balancing rigor, performance, and risk while mentoring the team to ensure program objectives and schedules are met.

You will also contribute as a Design Engineer across the full program lifecycle, from concept to production, creating CAD

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
• 10+ years of professional mechanical engineering experience.
• At least 2 years leading engineering teams.
• Experience maturing satellite designs to detailed manufacturing drawings.
• Working knowledge of space system design requirements.
• Experience leading teams to meet technical and/or schedule challenges.
• High proficiency with Creo CAD and Windchill in manufacturing drawings.
• US Person is required.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of 4–8 Mechanical Design Engineers and manage performance.
• Establish design processes balancing rigor and practicality with program goals.
• Set Creo and Windchill standards for modeling, drawings, and release.
• Grow the technical acumen of the design team through mentoring and development plans.
• Coordinate with Space Vehicle Engineering, Production, and Supply Chain to implement designs.
• Provide CAD models and manufacturing documentation; support production.
• Deliver satellite mechanical designs from concept to production.
