Job summary

Fried Frank is seeking a Director of Research & Intelligence to lead Research Services and Intelligence, including Knowledge Management and BI. The role focuses on adopting AI-powered tools, managing budgets, and aligning research strategy with firm goals across multiple offices.

The ideal candidate has extensive law firm library and KM experience, strong leadership, and expertise in AI/BI technologies. This on-site role offers executive collaboration and growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• 8–10 years of progressive law firm library, research, or knowledge management experience, incl. 3+ years in leadership.
• Excellent communication and client service skills with attorneys and staff across levels.
• Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams in research, KM, and BI disciplines.
• Deep knowledge of legal research sources and methods; proficient with major databases and tools.
• Experience with prompt engineering and AI-assisted research workflows.
• Familiarity with AI vendor evaluation, implementation roadmaps, and change management.

Responsibilities

• Build and lead a high-performing team of managers, researchers, and BI analysts.
• Set performance objectives aligned with department and firm strategy.
• Oversee operation of ServiceNow, ResearchHub, Research Monitor, and the Integrated Library System.
• Drive modernization of expense management and financial reporting via technology.
• Guide reference, research, and collection services to meet client and practice group needs.
• Lead design of automated workflows for current awareness resources and client news.
• Manage intranet content to promote research tool adoption and awareness.
• Lead evaluation and optimization of AI-powered legal research platforms.
• Design and deliver training on AI tools and prompt engineering for legal workflows.
• Establish quality controls for AI-assisted research and ensure professional standards.
• Oversee strategic vendor relationships and renewal decisions.
