Job summary

Macmillan Davies is seeking a Head of Talent for a high-growth tech company in the SF Bay Area or NYC. You will build the in-house talent engine as the business scales from ~50 to 250 employees, while directly sourcing and closing key engineering hires.

This hands-on, player-coach role requires setting strategy, building processes, and leading a small recruiting team to hire across GTM, Product, Design and Operations with data-driven rigor.

Qualifications

• 8+ years' experience in Talent Acquisition / Recruiting.
• Experience as a Head of Talent, Talent Lead or equivalent.
• Proven track record of building a talent function from scratch.
• Experience scaling startup headcount significantly, ideally something like 30-90+.
• Strong experience recruiting highly technical engineering talent.
• The ability to operate at both strategic and executional levels.
• Experience partnering directly with founders and senior executives.
• A strong understanding of recruiting data, process, compensation and leveling.
• A genuine appetite for building rather than inheriting.

Responsibilities

• Build the in-house sourcing and full-cycle recruiting function from the ground up
• Hire and lead a team of 3-6 recruiters
• Personally source and close highly technical engineering talent
• Recruit across GTM, Product, Design and Operations as the business scales
• Partner closely with executives on headcount planning, hiring budgets, compensation and leveling
• Introduce data-driven reporting around pipeline health, hiring velocity and time-to-fill
• Build structured interviews, calibrated scorecards and a fast, high-bar hiring process
• Protect and strengthen the company culture as headcount scales
• Own the transition from candidate - employee, including the handoff into onboarding
• Hire an HR Generalist and help establish the foundations for the future People function

Head of Talent - High-Growth Tech | SF Bay Area or NYC | $185K-$210K + Equity

I'm working with a high-growth technology company that is entering a major scaling phase and looking for a Head of Talent to build its in-house talent engine and help take the business from roughly 50 to 250 employees.

This is a genuine player-coach role.

You'll be setting the talent strategy and building the function, but you'll also be expected to personally source and close some of the hardest hires, particularly across engineering.

What we are looking for

We're looking for a hands-on Talent leader and builder, rather than someone who has only managed an established recruiting organization.
