Job summary

GetHired, Inc. seeks a Director of Assessing to lead the administration of property valuations and tax programs for the town.

You will supervise up to three staff, oversee the annual revaluation of real and personal property, and manage motor vehicle and boat excise programs in accordance with state laws. The role requires a college degree with 5–7 years of assessing experience, Massachusetts accreditation within a year, and strong analytical and supervisory skills to ensure accurate, timely tax

Qualifications

• College degree with five to seven years of related work experience in assessing and/or appraisal.
• Accredited Assessor designation within one year of appointment is required.

Responsibilities

• Conduct the appraisal analysis and CAMA work to annually produce new assessed values for all types of real property.
• Appraise property according to market, replacement cost and capitalization of income approaches.
• Conduct statistical and mathematical analysis of property values, market trends, and recent sales data.
• Inspect property as necessary for additions, alterations, and demolitions.
• Prepare and present Tax Classification materials to the Selectboard.
• Produce the annual Tax Recapitulation Sheet and related records with the Finance Director.
• Maintain professional contact with the public, officials, bankers, and other stakeholders.
• Annually prepare department budget and GIS-related work.
• Defend assessed values before the State Appellate Tax Board.
