Job summary

Hawke Media, a Santa Monica-based agency, seeks a hands-on Director of People Operations to lead HR for ~150 employees. You’ll own payroll, benefits, recruiting, compliance, performance, and culture initiatives, partnering with leadership to elevate the employee experience.

As the senior HR leader, you will mentor two HR pros and a recruiter, shape policies, and manage crucial HR programs in a fast-paced, in-office environment.

Qualifications

• Senior HR leader with broad People Operations ownership.
• Lead HR team of two professionals and one recruiter.
• Knowledge of California employment practices and compliance.
• Hands-on payroll processing for a ~150-person org.
• Experience benefits renewals, open enrollment, and retirement plans.
• Experience handling complex employee relations and coaching managers.
• Experience overseeing recruiting and talent processes.
• HRIS, payroll, benefits, and applicant tracking systems knowledge (Paycom a plus).
• Excellent judgment, discretion, organization, and communication.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach, and develop a People team of two HR professionals and one recruiter.
• Serve as the company's senior HR resource and partner to leadership, managers, and employees.
• Oversee full employee lifecycle: onboarding, development, performance, leaves, changes, offboarding.
• Coach managers on performance and policy application.
• Handle sensitive employee relations matters with sound judgment.
• Develop and improve HR policies, programs, and systems.
