Job summary

Canonical is seeking a senior leader to helm Workplace Engineering data science and product engineering initiatives, shaping a cross-disciplinary squad.

You will mentor data scientists, software engineers, and UX designers, translate HR questions into research objectives, and drive predictive, prescriptive insights while building AI-enabled tools. GDPR-compliant data stewardship is essential.

This is a remote role aligned with the AMER/EMEA region, with occasional travel to company events.

Qualifications

• Background in data science, mathematics, or engineering with strong quantitative skills.
• Proficient in coding/scripting languages (Python, R, JavaScript) and data visualization tools.
• Ability to translate business questions into research objectives and select appropriate methodologies.
• Proven ability to lead and drive teams with roadmaps and mentorship.
• Willingness to travel internationally 2–4 times a year.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a squad of People Data Scientists, Software Engineers, and UX Designers.
• Bridge HR-speak and Dev-speak to ensure human intent behind code is understood.
• Move from descriptive metrics to predictive and prescriptive insights.
• Develop AI agents and data tooling while ensuring GDPR/privacy compliance.
• Create a single source of truth and secure People Data Stack across offerings.
