Job summary

BYU's School of Medicine seeks a Director of Student Assessment to lead the comprehensive assessment system across the MD curriculum. You will oversee data collection, integration, and reporting to support policy decisions, accreditation readiness, and continuous quality improvement.

The role requires a doctoral degree and extensive experience in educational assessment and medical education, with emphasis on validity, reliability, and psychometrics.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience in educational assessment, evaluation, medical education, or academic program administration.
• Alignment with mission and values of BYU and LDS Church.
• Preferred: experience in undergraduate/graduate medical education.
• Preferred: competency-based medical education and accreditation processes (LCME/COCA).
• Preferred: NBME assessments, USMLE data, assessment benchmarking.
• Preferred: leading assessment, curriculum, or accreditation committees.
• Preferred: psychometric analysis experience.
• Preferred: assessment management systems and analytics platforms.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the design, implementation, and improvement of assessment systems across all three phases of the MD curriculum.
• Ensure assessments measure cognitive achievement, competency attainment, and progress toward graduation outcomes.
• Maintain alignment with NBME exams, clerkship assessments, and program-level assessments.
• Develop a programmatic assessment framework integrating multiple learner performance measures.
• Ensure assessments are valid and support competency-based progression decisions.
• Provide strategic oversight for assessment planning and personnel.
• Lead governance, policy development, and LCME/School of Medicine compliance.
