Avalara, Inc. seeks a Senior Manager, IT Internal Audit to lead the IT internal audit strategy, oversee ICFR/SOX, and drive audits across security, privacy, and compliance in a fast-moving SaaS environment.

You will manage a remote team across the US, partner with executives, and advance AI governance while ensuring regulatory readiness and risk mitigation. The role emphasizes leadership, strategic impact, and global controls effectiveness.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in information systems, engineering, risk management or related field.
• 7+ years IT audit experience (internal or external) with 3+ years leading teams in high-growth SaaS/FinTech/tech companies.
• CPA, CIA, CISA, CISSP, CCSP or CISM preferred; multiple certificates welcome.
• Deep knowledge of internal auditing standards, ICFR/SOX, GAAP, PCAOB, SEC, COSO, COBIT; hands-on with cloud-native SaaS and security controls.
• 5+ years managing ICFR/SOX programs, including growth or M&A contexts.
• Strong project management and strategic planning skills; proven leadership.
• Experience with Salesforce, NetSuite, Workday and modern audit/GRC platforms; familiarity with AI governance.

Responsibilities

• Drive cross-functional audit strategy with executive stakeholders across Security, Engineering, Compliance, Product, Risk Management, and G&A.
• Manage multiple concurrent audit engagements end-to-end from scoping to remediation tracking.
• Contribute to enterprise risk assessment framework focusing on AI/ML, cybersecurity, and technology risks.
• Oversee IT ICFR/SOX program design, testing methodology, and regulatory readiness; embed AI into controls.
• Manage relationships with IT external auditors and coordinate with stakeholders to minimize audit fatigue.
• Lead annual technology risk assessments shaping audit and ERM strategies; align with C-suite priorities.
• Deliver executive-ready reports with business impact, risk quantification, and actionable recommendations.
• Build and mentor a high-performing audit team; foster continuous improvement and excellence.
• Champion next-gen audit tech: AI-driven anomaly detection, automated testing, and continuous monitoring.
