Job summary

The Overlake School seeks a Director of Experiential Education to provide strategic leadership, oversight, and project management for mission-driven, project-based learning for grades 5–12. This role leads the EE Department and partners with faculty, staff, and community partners to deliver experiential programs that connect classroom, co-curricular, and community life.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required; master's preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of leadership/coordination in experiential education.
• Strong organizational and project-management skills.
• Collaborative leadership and interpersonal skills.
• Experience with databases, spreadsheets, and scheduling tools.
• Willingness to travel and participate in overnight and weekend programs.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership and direction for Service Learning, Outdoor Education, retreats, Field Studies, and Project Week programs.
• Set annual departmental goals, timelines, and monitor progress with project management systems.
• Develop operational systems to improve planning, communication, and accountability across programs.
• Collaborate with senior admins, faculty, and staff to align EE initiatives with the school mission.
• Communicate clearly with employees, families, and students about programming details and safety.
• Coordinate logistics for EE programs including travel, Project Week, forms, and data systems.
• Manage risk and safety protocols for trips and events.
• Oversee program budgets, vendor contracts, and purchasing processes.
• Lead communications plans for EE and partner with Communications Office for materials.
• Provide updates to faculty, staff, and leadership on events and outcomes.
• Serve as liaison among departments intersecting with Experiential Education.
• Refine EE curricular scope and ensure integration with school curriculum.
• Oversee overnight supervision and travel for retreats and field studies.
• Lead 10-15 Outdoor or Service Trips per year and promote DEIB in programs.
