Job summary

BUNNELL LAMMONS ENGINEERING seeks a Department Manager for Environmental Due Diligence and Compliance to lead the Environmental Services Department, overseeing high‑volume projects and delivering defensible reports to clients across commercial, industrial, and public sectors.

The ideal candidate has a strong regulatory background, 10+ years in geotechnical/environmental consulting, and 3+ years of leadership, with professional registration preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science, or related technical discipline required; Master’s degree preferred.
• 10+ years of progressive experience in geotechnical and/or environmental consulting, including leadership and project management experience with a strong focus on environmental due diligence and compliance.
• 3+ years of team leadership or management experience in a consulting or corporate environment.
• Professional registration (PE, PG, CHMM, or similar) strongly preferred.
• Advanced understanding of federal and state environmental regulations, including CERCLA, RCRA, CWA, CAA, EPCRA.
• Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
• Experience with large portfolio due diligence for real estate, investment, or corporate clients.
• Familiarity with ASTM and AAI standards, vapor encroachment screening, and current PFAS regulations.
• Experience managing relationships with legal counsel, financial institutions, and regulators.
• Working knowledge of EHS management systems or digital compliance platforms.
• Excellent communication and technical writing skills.
• Strong business development and client relationship management capabilities.
• Experience with contract negotiation, MSA management, and operational policy implementation.
• Proficiency in project management software, financial reporting tools, and technical software relevant to geotechnical and environmental services.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Environmental Services Department with a focus on due diligence and compliance service lines.
• Supervise, mentor, and support a team of environmental professionals across multiple project types and experience levels.
• Oversee workload allocation, training, performance reviews, and hiring.
• Promote technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous professional development.
• Oversee the execution and quality of:
• Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ASTM E1527-21)
• Phase II Subsurface Investigations as needed to address Recognized Environmental Conditions (RECs)
• Transactional due diligence for real estate, mergers & acquisitions, and refinancing
• Ensure timely delivery of accurate, defensible reports to clients, attorneys, and financial institutions.
• Provide expert‑level reviews and client‑facing interpretations of findings, recommendations, and environmental risk.
