Job summary

UniGroup is seeking a Director of Communications to lead enterprise communications and protect the company’s reputation across brands. This hands-on leader will craft strategy, pitch stories, counsel executives, and serve as a spokesperson while guiding a small team.

Approximately 25% of the role focuses on CEO communications, with the remaining 75% on enterprise communications, earned media, and partnerships.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, PR, English or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 8+ years in corporate communications with people leadership.
• Proven success pitching to national, trade and regional media.
• Experience as an on-record spokesperson, including crisis comms.
• Experience advising CEOs on messaging and reputational risk.

Responsibilities

• Lead enterprise communications strategy across earned media, reputation, employee and change communications.
• Develop and pitch stories to national, trade and local media; build journalist relationships.
• Identify stories across agents, drivers, employees and customers for multi-channel use.
• Turn data and insights into thought leadership and media opportunities.
• Serve as company spokesperson for print, broadcast and on-camera interviews.
• Lead crisis and issues communications; advise leadership on responses.
• Partner with CEO on speeches, talking points, internal messages and board communications.
• Prepare CEO for interviews, events, town halls, and high-profile engagements.
• Counsel leaders on messaging and reputational risk.
• Guide communications for major priorities and organizational changes.
• Collaborate with Operations, IT, Finance, HR, Legal, Marketing, Sales early in initiatives.
• Strengthen connection to Marketing and Sales through earned media, social, web and brand.
• Work with Analytics on thought leadership, proof points and impact.
• Lead and develop the communications team; manage external agencies.
