Head of Engineering

NYC (in office 5x week)

$200-250k base + strong equity

FutureTech Recruitment is partnered with an AI startup based in NYC. Their platform is a dynamic, intelligent system that integrates company data, user context, and external biopharma sources to deliver comprehensive insights significantly faster than traditional methods. They’re actively looking for a Head of Engineering who can be hands-on with coding when required.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive the product and technical vision for their AI-powered workspace, staying hands-on with code and architecture.
• Apply cutting-edge AI research (LLMs, RAG, agents, vector DBs) to build fast, scalable systems that evolve with user needs.
• Align engineering, product, and business goals to balance short-term execution with long-term innovation.
• Recruit, mentor, and lead a high-performing engineering team focused on excellence, accountability, and iteration.
• Represent the company externally - engaging customers, investors, and the broader AI community to share their technical and product direction.

Requirements

• 8+ years of full-stack software engineering experience, with a strong grasp of architectural and coding best practices
• Proven experience working with LLMs, RAG systems, vector databases, and prompt engineering
• Hands-on with React, TypeScript, NodeJS, PostgreSQL, and Python
• Track record of contributing to or building high-performing engineering cultures with a strong focus on quality and speed
• Bonus points if you’ve worked in an early-stage startup or fast-paced, ambiguous environments and thrived
• Very strong equity in a fast-growing, exciting start-up
