Job summary

Verkada Inc. is seeking an Embedded Engineering Manager for Storage Systems in San Mateo, CA.

You will lead a highly technical team responsible for the software and infrastructure powering Verkada’s on-camera storage stack, collaborating with Hardware, Firmware, Streaming, Cloud Infrastructure, and Product teams to set the roadmap for next-generation storage technologies. You will drive architecture, reliability, and operational excellence across embedded storage systems and distributed backup

Qualifications

• BS/MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related technical field.
• 8+ years of software engineering experience, including leadership of infrastructure or systems teams.
• Strong expertise in C/C++, with Go or other higher-level languages preferred.
• Deep understanding of low-level systems concepts including file systems, flash storage, memory management, Linux kernel internals, device drivers, and embedded systems.
• Experience debugging storage or OS issues in production.
• Familiarity with Yocto, eBPF, MMC protocols, ext4, UBIFS, or related subsystems.
• Strong architectural and operational experience building reliable, scalable distributed systems.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure and backend systems (AWS, Docker, Kubernetes) is a plus.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to influence technical direction and stakeholders.
• Willingness to work onsite five days per week.

Responsibilities

• Build and lead a high-performing embedded storage team, including recruiting, mentoring, and leadership.
• Define and execute roadmaps for on-camera storage technologies.
• Collaborate with Hardware, Firmware, Streaming, Cloud Infrastructure, and Product teams.
• Drive architecture, reliability, and operational excellence for storage systems.
• Plan and drive project execution and product quality enhancements.
• Work cross-functionally to extend Verkada platform capabilities.
