Job summary

Verkada is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer (Video Streaming) to design and implement streaming features for 1M+ cameras. You will collaborate with firmware, backend, and client teams to build a high-performance streaming capture experience and improve firmware efficiency.

You will work on video encoding pipelines, hardware-accelerated codecs, and real-time video delivery with a focus on latency, QoE, and reliability. This role requires onsite presence five days a week.

Qualifications

• BS or MS degree in Computer Science (or similar).
• 5+ years of embedded systems development experience focusing on video streaming.
• Proficiency in C/C++ for embedded Linux environments.
• Must be willing and able to work onsite five days per week.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimize embedded video encoding and streaming pipelines for Verkada’s cameras and devices.
• Implement and tune hardware-accelerated codecs (H.264, H.265/HEVC, AV1) for performance and power efficiency.
• Build and extend multimedia frameworks (GStreamer, FFmpeg) for real-time video capture, processing, and delivery.
• Integrate and optimize streaming protocols (RTSP, RTP, RTMP, HLS, DASH, WebRTC) for low-latency transport.
• Profile and optimize startup time, latency, rebuffering, and overall video QoE metrics.
• Debug encoding pipelines, transport layers, and device utilization (CPU/GPU/ISP).
