Job summary

Verkada is seeking a Senior Embedded Software Engineer to lead new camera category development and scale a global, 1.5 million-device footprint. You’ll own firmware across MCU to edge services and collaborate with hardware, product, and backend teams to deliver reliable, high-performance systems.

You will guide architecture, drive cross-functional initiatives, and ensure operational excellence at scale, reporting to the Camera Firmware Manager and working from our San Mateo HQ.

Qualifications

• BS/MS in CS/EE or related field.
• 8+ years in systems software development for performance-constrained environments.
• 5+ years on Linux-based platforms.
• Led large cross-functional initiatives and hardware-software co-design.
• Experience with low-level protocols and firmware services.
• Strong OS, architecture knowledge; proficient in C++ (or Golang).
• Scripting with Bash and Python for tooling.

Responsibilities

• Unlocking new camera categories for untapped markets; collaborate on HW selection and feature scope.
• Own firmware roadmap and large-scale architectural changes across stack.
• Develop high-performance features across MCU firmware to Linux edge services.
• Address race conditions, memory issues, and hardware-software timing at scale.
• Balance hardware security, performance, power, and fleet observability.
• Partner with CV, Streaming, and Storage to push edge computing features.
• Ensure 24/7 uptime for global fleet with reliable deployment and monitoring.
