Job summary

Humana Inc. in Kentucky seeks a Lead Decision Intelligence Engineer to own decision intelligence and agentic AI across the NBA platform.

You will formalize business decisions, translate objectives and constraints into decision models, and lead a small engineering team in building production-grade decision capabilities. You will work with LangGraph, LangChain, Azure OpenAI, Databricks, and Humana's AI Gateway to design agentic workflows, integrate with enterprise AI platforms, and ensure

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field
6+ years of software engineering, machine learning engineering, AI engineering, or decision intelligence experience
Strong Python engineering experience building and operating production AI systems
Hands-on experience building agentic applications using LangGraph, LangChain, AutoGen, CrewAI
Experience integrating Azure OpenAI, Azure AI Foundry, Vertex AI, Anthropic, OpenAI, or comparable enterprise AI platforms
Strong understanding of Decision Intelligence concepts, including decision modeling, optimization, and outcome measurement
Experience implementing LLM application patterns including tool calling, structured outputs, retrieval-augmented generation, memory management, and workflow orchestration
Experience building evaluation frameworks for AI systems, including automated evaluation and human review
Ability to map business processes into formal decision frameworks and communicate those models
Demonstrated ability to lead a small engineering team while remaining a hands-on contributor
Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex AI architectures to senior leadership

Responsibilities

Decision intelligence modeling and formal modeling of business decision processes
Decision decomposition into graphs, services, hierarchies, and optimization opportunities
Determine where rules, models, RL, or agentic systems add value
Design and implement production agent workflows using LangGraph/LangChain
Build AI-powered capabilities in the Action Library
LLM and agent engineering including Azure OpenAI integration
Design retrieval-augmented architectures for reliable decision context
Operationalize reinforcement learning and decision optimization in NBA workflows
Build evaluation frameworks measuring accuracy and outcomes
Implement AI governance, observability, and compliance controls in healthcare
