Humana Inc. is seeking a Lead Decision Intelligence Engineer (AI) to own the application of decision intelligence and agentic AI across the NBA platform.

You will model business decisions, design agentic workflows, and guide a small team of engineers, collaborating with product, decision science, and data science teams to deliver scalable AI capabilities. Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field.
• 6+ years of software engineering, ML/AI engineering, or decision intelligence experience, incl. 1–2 years in a technical leadership capacity.
• Strong Python engineering experience building and operating production AI systems.
• Hands-on experience building agentic applications using LangGraph, LangChain, AutoGen, CrewAI, or similar orchestration frameworks.
• Experience integrating Azure OpenAI, Azure AI Foundry, Vertex AI, Anthropic, OpenAI, or comparable enterprise AI platforms.
• Strong understanding of Decision Intelligence concepts, including decision modeling, optimization, and outcome measurement.
• Experience implementing LLM application patterns including tool calling, structured outputs, retrieval-augmented generation, memory management, and workflow orchestration.
• Experience building evaluation frameworks for AI systems, including automated evaluation, human review, performance measurement, and experimentation.
• Ability to map business processes into formal decision frameworks and communicate those models to stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to lead a small engineering team while remaining a hands-on contributor.
• Strong communication skills to explain complex AI architectures to senior leadership.

• Decision intelligence modeling — Analyze and formally model business decision processes.
• Decision decomposition — Break complex processes into decision graphs and optimization opportunities.
• Optimization strategy — Determine where rules, models, or agentic systems create highest value.
• Agentic workflow delivery — Design and implement production agent workflows.
• Action Library intelligence — Build AI-powered capabilities within the Action Library.
• LLM and agent engineering — Integrate with Azure OpenAI and Humana's AI Gateway.
• Knowledge and retrieval systems — Design vector search and retrieval-augmented context.
• Reinforcement learning integration — Collaborate to operationalize RL in NBA workflows.
• Evaluation and experimentation — Build rigorous evaluation frameworks.
• AI governance and safety — Implement guardrails and auditing for healthcare environment.
• Team leadership — Mentor AI engineers and set engineering standards.
• Cross-functional partnership — Work with multiple teams to productionize decision processes.
