Job summary

First 5 Alameda County is seeking a Director of Data & Insights to lead the Agency's data systems, analytics strategy, and reporting. The role partners with divisions to drive data-informed decisions and scalable data solutions.

You will manage the data warehouse, governance, and AI-enabled initiatives while guiding cross-functional teams to deliver impactful insights. The position requires strong executive communication, governance, and change management, with a hybrid in-office schedule in

Qualifications

• Seven (7) years in data analytics, data engineering, BI, or a closely related technical field.
• Bachelor’s degree in public policy, data, evaluation, or a closely related field.
• Additional relevant work experience may be substituted to meet the degree requirement.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Data Services team by setting priorities aligned with Agency goals; manage staff, budget, contracts, vendors, and projects.
• Establish project management and performance practices to strengthen team capacity and accountability.
• Guide the Agency's analytics and data strategy, including reporting, dashboards, and data pipelines.
• Oversee data governance standards, documentation, validation, and use of AI with privacy and ethics in mind.
• Provide strategic oversight of data warehouse, architecture, pipelines, APIs, and data engineering.
• Ensure data products are accurate, accessible, and communicate outcomes clearly.
