Job summary

First 5 Alameda County seeks a Director of Data & Insights to lead data systems, analytics strategy, and reporting. You will guide data governance, architecture, and self-service analytics to support informed decisions across divisions.

The role requires strategic leadership, collaboration with Evaluation, and a focus on data literacy and responsible AI within a mission-driven organization.

Qualifications

• Seven (7) years in data analytics or related field with at least five (5) years in a management-level role.
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in public policy, data, evaluation, or related field.
• Proficiency with BI and data visualization platforms (Tableau, Power BI, Looker).
• Experience with data processing tools such as R, Python, SQL; able to lead data engineers.
• Knowledge of data governance, privacy, and ethics in data handling.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Data Services team by setting priorities and managing staff, budgets, and projects.
• Develop data strategies, dashboards, and self-service analytics for decision-making.
• Ensure data quality, documentation, and governance across systems.
• Collaborate with executives to translate policy into technical standards and architecture.
