Job summary

Altria seeks a Manager, Data Architecture & AI Enablement in Richmond, VA, to own target-state data architecture across LIMS, regulatory, R&D, and product domains. You will deliver production AI capabilities, govern data via Unity Catalog and Purview, and lead a small team of architects and engineers in a regulated environment.

You will architect conformed semantic layers, document intelligence, and RAG-enabled access while building scalable data pipelines on Databricks and Azure.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on data architecture and data engineering experience with pipelines and data models you designed and built.
• Hands-on integration experience with laboratory and regulatory systems: LIMS, SDMS, ELNs, regulatory information management, TrackWise, and PDM tools.
• Strong command of the Databricks/Microsoft data and AI stack and modern AI patterns: retrieval-augmented generation, embeddings, document intelligence.
• Experience delivering governed, production-ready AI capabilities and scalable data architectures in regulated environments.

Responsibilities

• Own the target-state data architecture for domains, including source integration and the curated semantic layer.
• Design data models for studies, samples, methods, results, specs, and submissions with conformed dimensions and standard units.
• Deliver AI enablement features such as document intelligence and RAG-enabled access to curated data.
• Build and oversee production pipelines on Databricks and Azure with proper observability and cost controls.
• Govern domains in Unity Catalog and Purview, aligning with identity and access controls.
• Ensure regulated-environment validation, audit trails, and data quality rules as code.
• Lead a small team of architects and engineers and coordinate onshore/offshore delivery.
