Job summary

Vertiv seeks a Commercial Estimating Manager to lead the estimating team focused on Busway applications, delivering accurate, cost-effective quotes through rigorous cost analysis and collaboration with Sales, Engineering, and Operations.

You will hire, onboard, and mentor engineers, drive estimating tool improvements, and ensure timely, customer-focused proposals while maintaining profitability and schedule commitments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field.
• 10+ years in electrical power distribution including estimating.
• 3+ years in people management.
• Experience with medium voltage/low voltage switchgear, busway, or related equipment.
• Ability to read and translate one-line diagrams, specs, RFPs, and scope documents into cost estimates.
• Experience managing estimating priorities across multiple product lines and opportunities.
• Strong understanding of equipment costs, labor assumptions, supplier quotations, profitability, and delivery commitments.
• Ability to coach technical leaders and collaborate with Sales, Engineering, Operations, and Supply Chain.
• Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Experience estimating engineered-to-order switchgear, busway, or skid solutions for data center or industrial apps.
• Familiarity with UL 857, 1558, UL 891, UL 67 standards.
• Experience improving quote configurators, cost models, estimating data, or quotation processes.
• Experience supporting high-volume quotation activity across multiple manufacturing locations.

Responsibilities

• Lead and guide the Commercial Estimating team in developing clear, concise, technically sound, and cost-effective solutions based on customer requirements and RFPs.
• Oversee cost estimating activities, equipment selections, and technical calculations for Busway applications.
• Ensure consistent use of Quote Configurator and estimating tools to provide accurate, complete quotes.
• Assist in hiring new Commercial Estimating Engineers; participate in evaluation, interviews, and selection.
• Lead onboarding and training for new Engineers to ensure understanding of products, estimating processes, tools, and workflows.
• Provide coaching and day-to-day guidance to engineers for development, workload prioritization, and productivity.
• Participate in performance reviews, giving feedback on technical performance and estimating accuracy.
• Review customer specs, scope docs, and project requirements to align estimates with expectations and profitability.
• Collaborate with Sales, Engineering, Operations, and Supply Chain to resolve cost, scope, pricing, and technical questions.
• Drive continuous improvement of estimating standards, practices, tools, and documentation.
• Maintain positive, productive team culture aligned with reliability, safety, integrity, quality, and productivity.
