Job summary

Stumptown Coffee Roasters in Portland, OR, seeks a visionary Head of Coffee and Education to lead green coffee sourcing, logistics, and quality, and to manage our Coffee Education team across locations. You will shape sourcing plans, drive sustainability, and align origin partnerships with our standards and brand.

The role reports to the General Manager and collaborates with the COU North American Leadership Team.

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years’ specialty coffee experience in sourcing, trading, and quality management.
• Excellent cupping and sensory evaluation skills.
• Experience in roasting, barista or coffee hospitality, and/or product innovation preferred.
• Background in developing and working with coffee sustainability programs and partners.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• A track record of P&L ownership, inventory management, commodities and coffee trading, and the development and execution of complex strategies and initiatives.
• Demonstrated success leading teams in a matrixed organization with the ability to influence across functions, business units, and senior stakeholders.
• Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
• Spanish language skills preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead green coffee buying and sustainability strategy.
• Oversee the green coffee sourcing, procurement and logistics.
• Own the green coffee P&L and inventory; manage forecast changes.
• Develop relationships with producer partners at origin.
• Act as the coffee subject matter expert and collaborate on product offerings.
• Manage green and roasted coffee lab teams and maintain quality standards.
• Lead the Education team for training labs in Portland, Los Angeles and New York City.
• Coordinate with the operations team on day-to-day supply execution and forecasting.
