Job summary

Stumptown Coffee is seeking a Head of Coffee and Education to lead green coffee sourcing, sustainability initiatives, and the education program. You will manage the green coffee team, inbound logistics, quality control, and the Education team supporting baristas and wholesale partners, with a focus on quality and brand standards.

The role requires a minimum 10 years in specialty coffee, strong cupping skills, and experience in sustainability.

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years’ specialty coffee experience in sourcing, trading, and quality management.
• Excellent cupping and sensory evaluation skills required.
• Experience in roasting, barista or coffee hospitality and/or product innovation preferred.
• Background in developing coffee sustainability programs and partners.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Track record of P&L ownership, inventory management and complex strategies.
• Experience leading teams in a matrixed organization.
• Passion for coffee, quality, sustainability and purpose-led branding.
• Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
• Spanish language skills preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead green coffee buying and sustainability strategy, ensuring quality and supply continuity.
• Manage green coffee sourcing and procurement, overseeing pricing, quality, volume and logistics.
• Own green coffee P&L and inventory, manage forecast changes with finance.
• Build relationships with origin partners under Direct Trade principles and report impact metrics.
• Be the coffee subject matter expert and collaborate on product offerings and innovations.
• Lead the Green Coffee Lab, Quality Control and Education teams across locations.
• Coordinate with operations on day-to-day supply execution and forecasting.
• Oversee Education programs and training labs in Portland, Los Angeles and NYC.
