Job summary

Asana is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Agent Context team in NYC. You will guide end-to-end retrieval, semantic search, embedding pipelines, and evaluation frameworks, ensuring scalable, trustworthy AI experiences across Asana.

You will manage senior engineers in NYC, collaborate with PMs in SF and Warsaw, and translate a multi-year platform thesis into a practical roadmap. This is an office-centric hybrid role based in New York with in-office days and optional remote work.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience with 3+ years managing engineers on infrastructure or ML systems teams.
• Shipped and operated production search, retrieval, or ML-serving systems at meaningful scale.
• Experience leading distributed teams across time zones and strong written communication.
• Experience with LLM-powered products, agent systems, or RAG pipelines is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical direction and delivery of Asana's retrieval stack end to end (search, embeddings, backfill, chunking, ranking).
• Build and operate evaluation infrastructure for retrieval quality (recall/precision, offline/online evals).
• Drive cost, performance, and quality tradeoffs to meet latency and scale targets.
• Set and enforce integration standards for other teams and manage a NYC-based senior engineering team.
• Partner with PM to translate multi-year platform thesis into a sequenced roadmap.
