Job summary

ClassDojo is seeking an experienced Head of Accounting (Controller) to lead and scale all accounting and tax operations across the organization. You will manage monthly closes, audits, financial reporting, and internal controls while building robust financial systems and policies for rapid growth.

You will lead a combined in-house team and external consultants, partnering with executives on strategic initiatives such as M&A, fundraising, and potential IPO.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of experience in accounting, with 3+ years at a top-tier audit firm and 8+ years in-house at startups.
• Experience building and retaining an accounting team with managers and ICs.
• Expertise in full-cycle accounting close, tax, treasury, payroll, and equity administration.
• Proven track record of scaling finance operations and leading through audits with Big Four.
• In-depth US GAAP knowledge (ASC 606/718/805/350) and ability to defend positions to auditors.
• Experience with M&A, fundraising, secondary transactions, and potential IPO.
• Active CPA license is a bonus.

Responsibilities

• Oversee monthly close, audits, financial reporting, and internal controls.
• Build and scale financial systems, processes, and policies to support growth.
• Manage in-house accounting team and external consultants (GL, AP, revenue, payroll, tax, treasury).
• Partner with stakeholders across the organization and support CFO on strategic initiatives including M&A and fundraising.
• Potentially own related areas such as procurement and contribute to future equity and financing strategies.
