POSITION: Head Custodian (Elementary / District Service Center)

EXEMPT STATUS: Non-Exempt

NUMBER OF DAYS: 250

PAY GRADE: Aux PG-3

DIVISION: School Plant Services

DEPARTMENT: Custodial Services

REPORTS TO: Principal/Zone Trainer/Custodian Supervisor

EDUCATION: None

EXPERIENCE: One year as a custodian

Position Function/Purpose

Daily supervision of all assigned Custodial Staff to assure all Custodians follow routine cleaning and maintenance procedures to maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency of building operations and grounds.

Major Responsibilities

• To manage and direct the work of the custodian staff on the assigned worksite
• To keep the building and grounds including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas neat and clean
• Guards against fire and accident hazards.
• Keeps operation cost to a minimum without reducing efficiency
• Helps to prevent property loss that may be caused by abuse
• Keeps all tools and equipment unserviceable condition. Practice and pursue preventive maintenance
• Keeps floor clean, waxed, buffed, vacuumed, or extracted
• Schedule and execute all normal housekeeping operations
• To keep light bulbs and tubes replaced
• Report maintenance through proper channels
• To be responsible for the security of buildings
• Setting and moving irrigation pipe and sprinklers on campus ground as assigned
• Keeps the supervisor and principal informed of all developments that affect custodial services
• Perform such other duties as assigned by Custodial Supervisor or Custodial Trainer

Qualification Requirements

• Proper use of cleaning supplies
• Operate all custodial equipment
• Valid Texas Driver License and acceptable driving record; must adhere to Midland ISD’s vehicle safety and use program
• Pass all training courses
