Job summary

Midway ISD Region 12 is seeking a Custodian to perform routine cleaning and building maintenance at assigned campus(es). You will follow established schedules, operate cleaning equipment, and ensure safe, clean facilities for students and staff.

Responsibilities include maintaining supplies, assisting with minor repairs, and supporting safety procedures. Ability to lift up to sixty pounds and work in varied indoor/outdoor environments is required.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain a cleaning schedule that will include cleaning of floors, chalkboards, wastebaskets, windows, furniture, equipment, and restrooms
• Keep school building and grounds neat and clean, including sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, and play areas
• Comply with local laws and procedures for storage and disposal of trash
• Maintain an inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment and order additional supplies as needed
• Maintain a program of preventive maintenance to ensure the comfort, health, and safety of students and staff
• Regulate heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide appropriate temperatures and ensure economical usage of fuel, water, and electricity
• Make minor building repairs as needed and report major repair needs to principal
• Move furniture or equipment within building as directed by principal
• Open and close building each school day and secure facilities
• Train in crossing guard duties and participate in rotation as morning or afternoon crossing guard

Primary Purpose: Follow routine cleaning and maintenance procedures to maintain a high standard of safety,cleanliness, and efficiency of building operations and grounds.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

• Cleaning: 1. Develop and maintain a cleaning schedule that will include cleaning of floors, chalkboards,wastebaskets, windows, furniture, equipment, and restrooms.

• Safety: 13. Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
• Safety: 14. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting,climbing, etc.
• Safety: 15. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.
• Safety: 16. Trained in crossing guard duties and will be in the rotation to be either a morning or afternoon crossing guard.

Tools/Equipment Used: Buffer, stripper, wet and dry vacuum cleaner, electric drill, shampooer, lawn mower, edger, and weed eater.

Lifting: Heavy lifting and carrying up to sixty pounds.

Environment: Work outside and inside; exposure to hot and cold temperatures; exposure to dust, toxicchemicals, and materials; slippery or uneven walking surfaces; work on ladders.

Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress.
