PRIMARY PURPOSE

Clean and maintain district facilities using routine procedures to maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency of building operations and grounds.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Certification:

  • None specified

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Ability to read and understand instructions for cleaning, maintenance, and safety procedures
  • Knowledge of minor repair and maintenance techniques
  • Ability to operate cleaning equipment and lift heavy equipment
  • Ability to properly handle cleaning supplies

Experience:

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Cleaning
  1. Maintain a cleaning schedule that includes floors, chalkboards/whiteboards, wastebaskets, windows, furniture, equipment, and restrooms.
  2. Keep school buildings and grounds, including sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, and play areas, neat and clean.
  3. Comply with local laws and district procedures for storage and disposal of trash.
  4. Assist in maintaining an inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment and request additional supplies as needed.
Maintenance and Repair
  1. Assist with lunchroom setup, including arranging tables and chairs.
  2. Perform preventive maintenance to ensure the comfort, health, and safety of students and staff.
  3. Make minor building repairs as needed and report major repair needs to the principal or supervisor.
  4. Regulate heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide appropriate temperatures and ensure economical use of fuel, water, and electricity.
  5. Move furniture or equipment within the building as directed.
  6. Assist in setting up facilities for special events.
Safety
  1. Assist with opening and closing the building each school day, ensuring all exit doors and panic hardware function properly during occupancy.
  2. Follow established procedures for locking, checking, and safeguarding facilities.
  3. Inspect machines and equipment daily for safety and efficiency.
  4. Follow established safety procedures and techniques, including proper lifting and climbing practices.
  5. Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
  6. Correct unsafe conditions and promptly report conditions that cannot be immediately corrected.
  7. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

None.

MENTAL DEMANDS / PHYSICAL DEMANDS / ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS

Tools/Equipment Used: Floor buffer, floor stripper, wet and dry vacuum cleaner, electric drill, hand tools, carpet shampooer, lawn mower, edger, and weed trimmer.

Posture: Frequent standing, sitting, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting.

Motion: Frequent walking, climbing stairs and ladders, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching.

Lifting: Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over) on a daily basis.

Environment: Work indoors and outdoors, including slippery or uneven surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme temperatures, dust, and cleaning chemicals; may work irregular or prolonged hours.

Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress.
