Job summary

Sigma Earth is seeking a Waste Operations Associate to support health, safety, and waste management activities on-site. You will coordinate with WHS teams and vendors, respond to incidents, and contribute to continuous safety improvements.

The role requires lifting up to 49 lbs, flexibility for nights and weekends, and a 40-hour workweek with overtime as needed. Proficiency with Microsoft Office is preferred.

Qualifications

  • 1+ years of experience using Microsoft Office tools and applications.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Physical capability to lift up to 49 lbs and perform standing/walking duties for shifts up to 12 hours, including frequent bending, pushing, pulling, squatting, and reaching.
  • Willingness to work 40 hours per week with overtime as required.
  • 2+ years of experience using Microsoft Office tools and applications.

Responsibilities

  • Prioritize health, safety, and workplace safety (WHS) best practices in all operational activities.
  • Coordinate with WHS teams and waste vendors to manage daily waste handling and disposal operations.
  • Respond promptly to incidents, communicate clearly with affected departments, and ensure efficient resolution of issues.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by sharing feedback, learnings, and suggestions through the reporting line.
  • Conduct periodic inspections of waste containers and storage areas to ensure compliance and safety standards.
  • Coordinate Tier 1 associates (hazmat trained) for daily operational tasks such as moving full carts, compacting waste, and related activities based on facility volume.
  • Monitor and track quantities of hazardous waste generated on-site and maintain updated waste inventory records.
  • Ensure proper classification of hazardous waste in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records of hazardous waste generation and ensure proper consignment documentation is completed, stored, and updated.
  • Escalate non-compliance issues or regulatory concerns to the Operations Area Manager when required.
  • Support WHS team members and actively participate in learning and safety initiatives.
