Job description

Key Responsibilities
  • Support supervisors in planning, organizing, and coordinating daily operational activities.
  • Monitor inventory levels and ensure compliance with supply management procedures.
  • Liaise with vendors, transport providers, and waste treatment facilities to ensure smooth operations.
  • Maintain cleanliness and proper housekeeping standards across waste processing and storage areas while ensuring safe handling of chemicals.
  • Oversee unloading activities and the receipt of materials into storage and waste treatment systems.
  • Facilitate the safe and efficient treatment of waste by collecting, analyzing, and conducting treatment simulations on incoming waste samples.
  • Make operational decisions based on waste characterization data and facility permit requirements.
  • Authorize batch clearances and filtration processes for treated effluent.
  • Collect and evaluate post-treatment samples to confirm suitability for disposal or further processing.
  • Report maintenance needs for plant equipment and transportation assets to the appropriate personnel.
  • Review and approve RCRA manifests and related compliance documentation.
  • Ensure adherence to all safety regulations, procedures, and environmental standards by facility personnel.
  • Train employees on waste processing procedures, operational practices, and safety requirements.
  • Provide timely feedback on employee performance, both positive and corrective, to management.
  • Assist with staffing needs by filling in during absences or addressing workflow bottlenecks.
  • Participate in emergency response activities involving facility operations and transportation incidents, both on-site and off-site.
  • Perform additional duties as required to support facility operations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Understanding of personnel supervision, facility operations, waste processing, recycling methods, and equipment management.
  • Familiarity with receiving processes, purchasing procedures, work orders, licensing requirements, and DOT regulations.
  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy and quality.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, remain organized, and effectively manage multiple responsibilities.
  • Valid driver’s license may be required depending on the position.
  • Additional certifications or licenses, such as a CDL, may be preferred for certain roles.
Minimum Qualifications
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience in waste management, environmental services, operations, or a related field.
  • Experience supporting hazardous waste collection, handling, packaging, recycling, and disposal activities for residential and commercial waste streams.
  • Ability to work under direct or general supervision while maintaining compliance with environmental and safety standards.
  • Ensure safe facility operations through traffic management, customer assistance, and secure unloading of hazardous materials.
  • Perform routine facility maintenance activities, including setup, cleanup, inspections, inventory management, waste bulking, unloading, and lab-packing.
  • Respond effectively to hazardous material spills and releases through containment measures or activation of emergency response procedures.
  • Conduct hazardous material identification and classification tests to determine proper labeling, storage, and disposal methods.
  • Assist in preparing, packaging, and loading hazardous waste shipments in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Operate and maintain equipment such as forklifts, trucks, pumps, and other facility machinery.
  • Foster a collaborative work environment by contributing to problem-solving and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provide guidance and on-the-job training to temporary or contract staff when required.
  • Carry out other related operational and environmental duties as assigned.
